Tides Tavern Building

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: Tides Tavern is joining our family! For decades, Tides Tavern has been more than a waterfront tavern.  It’s a place where friends gather and guests feel at home. Tides has always been a place that brings people together, reflecting the same spirit we celebrate at every Anthony’s restaurant. Welcoming Tides into our family was a natural fit, built on shared values and a love for bringing people together across the Northwest.

“Tides Tavern is a treasured part of the Gig Harbor community, and we’re honored to be entrusted with its next chapter,” said Amy Burns, President and CEO of Anthony’s Restaurants. “My father, Budd Gould, and my brothers, Herb and JJ Gould, share a deep respect for what the Stanley family has built. As fate would have it, my father started Anthony’s 53 years ago as well, committed to upholding the same care, warmth, and Northwest hospitality that have made the Tides such an important gathering place for generations.”

The Stanley family has created something truly special, and as they step into retirement, we’re proud to carry forward their legacy. We look forward to honoring their dedication to the community, supporting the team they’ve built, and continuing to make Tides Tavern a place where friends and neighbors come together to share good food, laughter, and lasting memories.

Everything that makes Tides special will stay the same, including:

  • The menu: All your favorite food and drinks will remain.
  • The team: We hope the entire Tides team will continue to be part of this journey.
  • The dock experience: Summer evenings on the water? Absolutely!
  • Tides swag: You’ll still be able to show off your favorite Tides gear.
  • Straws: Back by popular demand, available upon request.
  • Stella and Mac, the Canadian geese: Former seasonal nesters, with the property still open should they choose to return.
  • 21+ atmosphere: The Tavern will continue to be adults-only.
  • The award-winning women’s bathroom: As GM Kristin Bergeson said, “Only the girls know about it, and we’re just super proud of it.”

Plus, Tides Tavern and Anthony’s gift cards will now be valid at all locations, so you can enjoy your favorite spots across the region.

Tides Tavern’s story goes all the way back to 1910, when Axel Uddenberg built the West Side Mercantile near Gig Harbor’s “Peoples’ Dock,” the town’s first general store by the public ferry landing. Fast forward to the late ’60s and early ’70s, the space was owned by “Three Fingered Jack” Miller—a Jerry Garcia doppelgänger with a booming tenor voice and a flair for the dramatic. His eccentric personality and songs became local legend.

In 1973, Peter Stanley purchased the building and, after renovations, opened the doors to Tides Tavern. From day one, it was more than a tavern. It became a gathering place full of laughter, cheer, house-made food, and carefully crafted beverages.

Today, Tides Tavern continues to be an anchor of the community, where new friendships are made, old ones are celebrated, and memories are created that last a lifetime.

We can’t wait to keep the good times rolling at Tides Tavern! Here’s to great food, good friends, and more memories to come. Welcome to the family!
